The Best M.2 SSD for PS5 2022

PS5 SSD Bay

The 825GB internal SSD in the PS5 can only hold a handful of installed games at a time. Thankfully Sony included a M.2 SSD expansion slot in the PS5 to allow additional storage for PS5 games to be installed. However there a few requirements in choosing the best M.2 SSD for PS5.

  • PCI-Express Gen4x4 supported M.2 NVMe SSD
  • Must have a heatsink
  • Sequential read speed 5,500MB/s or faster is recommended

While these M.2 solid state drives are fast, they still are not as fast as the builtin SSD in the PS5. Taking this into consideration you may want to be selective in choosing which drive to install your game after expanding your PS5 storage. Also if you run into any performance issues with a game installed on the added SSD you might want to transfer it to the builtin SSD.
